Ronald Palmer

Instrument Specialty: French Horn

Education: Kennesaw State University

Teaching Experience: Ronald has been teaching for over 40 years and has been with KSM since 2000.

Performance Experience: Ronald is presently playing with the Westside Winds, East Cobb Horizons Band, the Band of America in Atlanta, and the City of Marietta Orchestra.

Drums/Percussion

Rick Shoemaker

Instrument Specialty: Drums, Percussion

Teaching Experience: He has taught for over 20 years, and teaches lessons at both the Marietta and Woodstock locations.

Performance Experience: Rick Shoemaker has played for over 35 years, touring nationally, performing with Chuck Negron and Mystic Orchestra, Leni Stern, renown world music group Janah, Geoff Atchison, Moses Moe of Mother’s Finest, and many others.

Mitch Kiley

Instrument Specialty: Drums, Percussion

Education: Berklee College of Music

Teaching Experience: Mitch has been teaching for over five years and has been an instructor at Campbell High School. He has taught various drum line/band camps at local Cobb County schools including Lassiter High School.

Performance Experience: He has performed several hundred professional shows throughout the east and west coast, including some nationally televisised events. Mitch has also recorded with platinum selling artists, most recently Matt Goldman.

Guitar/Bass

Luis Mendez

Instrument Specialty: Guitar, Ukulele

Education: ARS Nova School of Music

Performance Experience: Luis plays the cuatro, baritone, ukulele, and guitar. Currently, he plays in the country rock band High Noon and Latin Jazz band Nova Sound.

Specialty: Rock, jazz, pop, funk, country, blues, and classical

Russell Eldridge

Instrument Specialty: Guitar, Bass

Education: Atlanta Institute of Music, Honors graduate

Teaching Experience: Russell has been with KSM since 2002 and taught an Odd Meter class at the Atlanta Institute of Music for four years.

Performance Experience: Russell opened for Helloween and Anthrax. He also played MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball Tour, and was the lead singer and guitarist for Delusional Mind for two years. He currently plays in the band Noonday Blues.

Specialty: Blues, country, rock, and metal

John Ward

Instrument Specialty: Guitar

Education: Kennesaw State, Bachelor of Music Performance

Performance Experience: John played and toured with the band Grave Danger in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and currently plays in the metal band Severity. He also did studio work for Earbubbles Productions.

Mark Cook

Instrument Specialty: Guitar, Bass

Education: Indiana State University, Bachelor in Industrial Technology

Teaching Experience: Mark has been teaching for over 23 years.

Performance Experience: Mark produced five CDs and is the winner of four JP Folks Music Awards. He has also been seen and heard on several TV and feature films and XM radio.

Sal Gentile

Instrument Specialty: Guitar, Mandolin

Education: Queens College

Performance Experience: Sal has played with BB King, Lester Lanin, and Rosemary Clooney. He was featured in the AJC, Guitar Player Magazine, Creative Loafing, and Just Jazz Magazine. Sal also played for General Colin Powell and James Brown.

Dan Owenby

Instrument Specialty: Banjo

Education: Master of Business Administration

Teaching Experience: Dan has taught at KSM since 2009 and works with middle and high school ensembles.

Performance Experience: Dan has performed onstage with Travis Tritt and various bluegrass bands.

Specialty: Claw hammer banjo style with picks on thumb, index, and middle fingers

Piano/Voice

James Poteat

Instrument Specialty: Piano, Trombone

Education: Kennesaw State University

Teaching Experience: James has over 8 years of teaching experience with a concentration in music theory.

Performance Experience: James performed with and conducted several choirs and ensembles. He has been commissioned to compose and arrange for a number of individuals and groups.

Katie O’Leary

Instrument Specialty: Piano

Education: Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy from Shorter University

Teaching Experience: Katie has had extensive training in the art of piano pedagogy. She has been teaching for eight years.

Performance Experience: Katie has performed in a variety of master-classes and solo recitals. She currently works as the church pianist at West Rome United Methodist.

Strings

Jennifer Clinehens

Instrument Specialty: Violin, Viola, Cello, Voice

Education: University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Berkley College of Music, University of Virginia, B.A. in Music, Belmont University

Teaching Experience: Jennifer has a teaching style that mixes classical, jazz, modern, and popular music to build a program tailored to each student.

Performance Experience: Her performance experience includes studio, orchestral, and chamber music; she’s performed and studied with artists such as Roy “Futureman” Wooten, Tracy Silverman, Jean-Luc Ponty, and Matt Glaser.

Brittany Thayer

Instrument Specialty: Violin

Education: Kennesaw State University, Violin Performance

Performance Experience: Brittany has performed with the rock band Kansas in their Collegiate Symphony Tour and was a member of the first orchestra to perform Peter Gabriel’s New Blood outside of Gabriel’s own touring orchestra. At KSU she participates in violin studio class and chamber ensembles.
